The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences has revealed the nominees for this year’s Webby Awards, which acknowledge exceptional internet content and creators from around the world.
Among the nominees are Harry Styles, Post Malone, Lizzo, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, the cast of “Ted Lasso,” and the web series featuring a child’s love for corn. The Academy received nearly 14,000 entries from 70 different countries.
Notable nominees include Styles for his AirPods commercial, Trevor Noah for his segments on “The Daily Show,” and BTS fans for their #MyBTStory YouTube uploads.
Lizzo is nominated for her show “Lizzo’s Watch Out For the Big Grrrls,” while Doja Cat’s reluctant social video for Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza is up for best advertising partnership.
Other nominees include Post Malone’s “Twelve Carat Toothache” listening experience, “Recess Therapy,” and Megan Thee Stallion’s VR concert for best metaverse, immersive or virtual performance.
In other music nods, Future’s “Wait For U” featuring Drake and Tems, Muse’s “Compliance,” Disturbed’s “Bad Man” and Christina Aguilera’s reworked “Beautiful” for World Mental Health Day are competing for best music video.
The Webby Awards have recognized Metallica’s collaboration with “Stranger Things” for a collection of Hellfire Club merchandise as a nominee for the best partnership or collaboration category. Additionally, Lupita Nyong’o, Stephen Colbert, and Jennifer Garner’s social media accounts have also been nominated.
This year’s nominations reflect a significant focus on artificial intelligence, as demonstrated by OpenAI’s nomination for best science website or mobile site, as well as nominations for the AI artwork campaign by Heinz ketchup and Sherwin-Williams’ voice-activated AI color system.
Among the companies with the highest number of nominations are Apple with 22, MTV with 15, National Geographic and Netflix with 14 each, Audible with 13, CNN and HBO and The Washington Post each with 12, and Google and Meta with 11 each, while Amazon earned 10 nominations.
The winners of the Webby Awards are chosen by the Academy, while fans around the world can vote for the Webby People’s Voice Awards until April 20. The results for both awards will be announced on April 25.
The Academy is composed of prominent figures from various industries, including Questlove, Roxane Gay, LeVar Burton, Samantha Bee, Ziwe Fumudoh, Reshma Saujani, Natalie Guzman, Tan France, Quinta Brunson, Werner Vogels, Andy Slavitt, Tracy Chou, and Takashi Murakami.
