In Hyderabad, India, two passenger trains collided in a tragic incident on Sunday, resulting in the loss of six lives and injuries to 40 people, as reported by officials.
The collision took place in Andhra Pradesh state’s Vizianagaram district, where an incoming train collided with a stationary one, causing at least three rail cars to derail. Senior railway officer Saurab Prasad provided this information.
Multiple rescue teams and local residents joined efforts to rescue and assist injured passengers trapped in the wreckage.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy called for a swift response, urging the dispatch of as many ambulances as possible to the crash site and instructing relief measures to be put in place.
It’s worth noting that train accidents are unfortunately common in India and are frequently attributed to human error or outdated signaling equipment. In June, one of the deadliest rail accidents in decades occurred in eastern India, claiming the lives of over 280 individuals when two passenger trains collided.
India’s extensive railway network sees more than 12 million people traveling on 14,000 trains daily, covering a vast 64,000 kilometers (40,000 miles) of track.
